My Nephew Vinnie.

My brother and sister-in-law recently had their first child. It happened while the Mrs and I were in Disney at the Food and Wine festival. At Thanksgiving I was able to shoot a few pictures of Vincent. He'll be back for Christmas and a few more family photographs.

Introducing Vinnie!

Grandma is a "little" happy...

J + R :: Engagement

This is my second post about Joye and Randy. The first post appears to have disappeared when it was supposed to appear in November. Go figure. It's ok though, these two are worth the extra typing.

Sometimes you just know it when a couple is right for each other. It's more than just the snuggle together touchiness. It's the way they play together, the way their humor compliments each other. Always nice to and even nicer to be a part of.

Here's a couple from the day we spent together in Saluda Shoals Park.

Alicia + Phil in the Wild

I've been trying for MONTHS to get a couple, any couple to choose the Riverbanks Zoo as the location for their engagement session. So far, no takers. But along comes Alicia and Phil. The moment I mentioned it, Alicia was all for it. (I love a pioneer!!) So we decided that some time in the fall would be nice since it wouldn't be 110 degrees.

Last Sunday, was the date. It was a great one. The Zoo was practically empty, and we really had much of the place to ourselves. A lot of beauty and love mixed with a little silliness and fun always creates a wonderful atmosphere. And this couple made it all work together.

A few from the day...

Note the VERY large vulture in the background just off of Phil's shoulder. I don't think Alicia's expression could better!

The yellow pages ad

In October, I was hired to shoot a portrait of local attorney, Kana Johnson. The original purpose was to have an updated yellow pages ad done. A few weeks later she sent me the ad which was created for her.

Frankly, I was a little nauseated. If you take the patter of a carnival barker and reduce it to text, this is what you get. Nearly a half dozen fonts, DMV photo (made from MY work...), clumsy alignment... It had it all.

Kana did not ask me to redesign anything, but I really could not let this be a representation of one of my clients. (If Kana is reading this, she's probably saying, "Oh my God! My photographer is such a cheese ball!") True, true... But she LOVED my take on what the ad should look like.

Check out the 2009 phonebook. Well, you could just have a look below. It is one of two designs I did for her.

Disney 2008

Disney's Food and Wine festival has been a destination for the Mrs and I for a few years. This year was no exception. Without question, this year's food winner was the "crawfish etouffee" from the Louisiana booth. The mini bottles of Tobasco sauce, put the dish over the top!

But I elected not to try photograph the food. Instead, I spent the time shooting the other eye candy around the parks. A few from the vacation:

The view from the hotel room.

Cinderella's castle at night.

Mickey's not so scary Halloween party fireworks.

The wall art in the line for Sorin'

The Expedition Everest ride.

Avery's Half Dozen

6 months or so ago, Avery made her debut to the world. On a cool Autumn day, we got together again at Saluda Shoals park for their 6th month family photo session. This, by the way, is where the phrase "baby blues" comes from! Just look at the change a few very short months brings!

A couple from our day.

Heavy Metal Bridal.

My October 4th bride, Faith, had a special bridal portrait in mind for her soon to be husband. She wanted it done on his Harley, in the backyard that they were preparing for the wedding ceremony.

At the wedding, this 16x20 canvas portrait was a HUGE hit. The groom loved it! Here are a few images from the day.

Gavin Greets the World

My last minute couple, Chad & Angie, came over for their newborn session with Gavin. Boundless energy. That's what I thought of most as we captured the many faces of this fine young man. In the first photo, Gavin is actually yawning, not yelling. Though, as a budding Gamecock fan, a good rebel yell might have been in order.

A few from the day...

Two From June Become One

In June I shot Bob and Faith's engagement session. On a cool evening in October, I met again with this wonderful couple to shoot their wedding. It was presided over by her son (whose wedding I also shot...) and held in their lovely, painstakingly lanscaped backyard. Attended by close friends and family, it was an amazing and intimate ceremony. A string quartet added beautifully to the class and timelessness of the day.

Here is a quick peek.

Corporate Portrait 3 Ways

I had the amazing opportunity to do a corporate portrait session with Columbia area attorney Kana Johnson. She wanted a more updated look for some advertising pieces. More importantly, the images needed to have a range of looks for differing markets. Downtown Columbia provided all the settings we could ever ask for. A great "model" (she speaks 4 languages by the way) a cool Autumn evening, and great light, all came together to make a great shoot!

Three quite different looks from the day.

Madison Marches In

It's only been a short while since my Maternity session with Harry and Kristen. When that session was over Harry casually looked over at Kristen and said, "Okay, we got the pictures. You can give birth now..." Less than 48 hours later, she did just that! Talk about just in the nick of time.

So Madison is with us, and what a treasure she is! A few from the day...

Angie&Chad :: Gavin

Angie and Chad really didn't have any plans to do a maternity session. However the circumstances aligned themselves a bit, and their good friends, Harry & Kristen, shared their session photographs. Angie at once saw the importance of capturing such a special time. A young couple, waiting on a new life - Gavin - brings a very personal inspiration to me.

A couple from their session.

Justin + Courtney = Wedding!

How quickly time passes. It was May when I shot Justin and Courtney's engagement session. They were as much fun at their wedding as they were that day in May. On August 23'rd we met again at the lovely, Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Add in the classic beauty of a '57 Chevy as their chariot to the reception, and something special was bound to happen with this awesome couple.

A quick look at the day:

Expecting Madison

There is a very special quality in maternity sessions. No other time has so many hopes, dreams, and possibilities, mixed with wisps of uncertainty, and even fear. Still, the overriding joy that accompanies moms and dads-to-be, was never more evident than with Harry and Kristen. It was truly, happily, infectious. The hundred year old wood floors of the lovely Corley Mill House, and the soft light of a cloudy day made everything perfect.

I can hardly wait to visit them again for the newborn photos. As you can see, it won't be long!

Bridals From History

The problem with doing bridal shoots is that you can't put them on the blog until after the wedding. Sometimes you forget, that you had them when faced with a few hundred wedding photographs to process. So after a bit of waiting, here are a few from some prior bridal sessions.
